#SecondChancesCA
Stopping the cycle of crime means holding people who commit crime accountable and ensuring their release and reintegration into society is primed for stability.
When people with convictions are prevented from accessing jobs, housing, social supports and reuniting with family, or are saddled with untenable criminal justice debt, it is near impossible for them to contribute to their families and communities.
Second Chances is predicated on the intrinsic shared value that everyone who can take care of themselves and their families is afforded that opportunity. Making second chances real means giving people exiting the justice system a chance at stability and redemption.
Californians for Safety and Justice’s Second Chances Project is a collaboration between law enforcement, impacted individuals, direct service providers, academia, crime survivors, legal professionals, system leaders, business, and labor to discuss the impact of convictions on California’s families and communities. The goal is to identify areas for reform and develop a multi-year agenda that calls for smart justice policies that increases public safety, uplifts families, and transforms communities.
